The 7th UArctic Rectors' Forum concludes in Arkhangelsk
The 7th UArctic Rectors' Forum hosted by the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU) in Arkhangelsk, Russia, June 27th and 28th, 2013 has come to an end.
The theme of the 2013 Rectors’ Forum was "The Northern Sea Route Logistics, Transportation and Infrastructure.” The Rectors' Forum was held in conjunction with UArctic Student Forum. The Forum gathered together 50 rectors and invited speakers from eight different countries and 18 students.
On the first official business day of the Forum expert speakers from the field illustrated the theme, followed by the panel of rectors focusing on national Arctic strategies and the role of universities in the regional development. Ambassador-at-Large Anton Vasiliev, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, acted as a moderator.
In addition, during the Rectors’ business meeting, a draft declaration was introduced and was then finalized by the Forum on their final day. Please, find the declaration here.Furthermore, rectors got introduced to the draft UArctic Strategic Plan 2020.
The Forum concluded with second panel discussion around the topic of research as a response to regional development.
The Forum's final event brought together participants, including students at a Cruise dinner. Some of the participant had the opportunity to join the post-forum excursion trip to the Solovetsky Islands on 29th – the biggest archipelago in the White Sea, known as the Pearl of the Russian North.
