A developed civilized society is impossible without highly qualified specialists in the field of economics, management and law.
Drawing on its history and rich traditions, the Higher School of Economics, Management and Law (HSEML) has become the center of university education and research in the region. We confidently carry out our mission consisting in the training of highly qualified professionals in economics, management and law through the integration of education, research and practice aimed at the Arctic’s sustainable development in the conditions of increasing global competition.
HSEML provides its students with all the necessary conditions for personal growth and professional development. The school comprises 10 departments, an employee reserve center, a legal clinic, a criminalistics laboratory, computer classes and a unique specialized library.
All educational programmes include an Arctic educational module. In the framework of the module students study the history of the Russian North and the Arctic as well as the socio-economic and legal development of the Arctic territories. Our professors apply innovative teaching methods, including project-based learning. HSEML offers supplementary education programmes for all population categories in the framework of advanced training and professional retraining. The Presidential Management Training Programme is also very important to us.
Our students regularly and successfully participate in research competitions conducted by foreign organizations (Philip C. Jessup International Public Law Competition), the State Duma of the Russian Federation (“My Legislative Initiative”), the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the legislative and executive bodies of the Arkhangelsk region.
The involvement of students in research increases the prestige and status of HSEML at the regional, federal and international levels and allows the students to deepen and expand their knowledge in various fields.
Our students begin to actively participate in the public life and become members of various youth associations at the very early stages of their education. They subsequently retain bright memories of the HSEML’s creative environment and its diverse cultural and sport life.
The school is actively developing its international cooperation. Our long-standing partners are the University of Tromsø – the Arctic University of Norway, the University of Nordland (Norway), the Lapland University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lapland (Finland), the University of Umeå (Sweden) and many others. Together with the Norwegian and Finnish universities HSEML is implementing an English-taught joint educational programme “Travel and Tourism Management”, and the development of new joint programmes is in progress.
We implement international educational and research projects and regularly welcome lecturers and researchers from foreign universities. Our professors and students participate in various mobility programs, and our foreign students come from both the former Soviet and non-CIS countries. The HSEML International Friendship Club is a student self-government body uniting students from different corners of the world. The Club’s activities include the organization of concerts, meetings, round tables and various other events.
The determination and commitment of the HSEML staff has laid a solid foundation for the school’s successful development. In the near future, new steps need to be taken to preserve and strengthen its position in the sphere of education.
