Presentation of the Atlas "Mikhail Lomonosov's Birthplace in the History of Russia from Ancient Times to the Present Day"
In preparation for the Mikhail Lomonosov's 310th anniversary, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Arkhangelsk Region in cooperation with the Lomonosov Foundation and the publishing house "Russian Word", with the support of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Arkhangelsk Regional Institute of Open Education and Arkhangelsk Regional Office of the Russian Military and Historical Society implemented a project to create a historical and cultural atlas named "Mikhail Lomonosov's Birthplace in the History of Russia from Ancient Times to the Present Day".
Just before the New Year holiday week, experts of the Laboratory Systems and Technologies Company installed and commissioned the world’s finest Simultaneous DSC/TGA – Discovery SDT 650. This equipment was purchased by the Higher School of Engineering under the international DeConcrete project funded by the Kolarctic Cross-Border Cooperation Program.
Elena Kudryashova, Rector of M.V. Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University has recently met with Arkhangelsk Government Deputy Chairman for Project Activities, Viktor Ikonnikov, to discuss the progress towards world-class Research and Education Center “Russian Arctic: New materials, technologies and research methods.”

A series of live streams with the directors of the university's academic departments is being held at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University. This time, the Director of the Higher School of Social Sciences, Humanities and International Communication Alexander Tamitskiy answered the questions of the students, applicants and their parents.
The period from January 16 to 30 will see the Pomor Shipbuilding Association’s masterclass constructing a 6.5-meter long sailing rowboat known as karbass. Leading the process will be Viktor Petrovich Kuznetsov, a boat building master and native of Arkhangelsk’s Leshukonskoye village. The team claim they can build the boat as quickly as in the old days — within just two weeks.
On December 23, a regular meeting of the French Poetry Club was held. It was organized by the Specialized Department of Automated Translation Technologies based upon the “AKM-West” Translation Bureau together with the Center of International Information Resources of the Arkhangelsk Regional Scientific Library. The event was attended by the teachers and students of the Higher School of Social Sciences, Humanities and International Communication, teachers and students of Severodvinsk Gymnasium № 14, employees and readers of the library.
There were six teams of the second-, third- and fourth-year students majoring in international relations and regional studies of Russia. Graduates of the department, who work in these fields, and undergraduates of Saint Petersburg State University took part in the game as well. In total, 48 participants were involved in the game.
On 23-24 December, the round table «Crossing the Boundaries of Subject Knowledge» was held. It was organized by the Department of English Philology, Nordic Languages and Language Pedagogy to discuss scientific interests of young scientists. It was a videoconference with first-year students.
The conference was organised by the NArFU Political Science Club "On Top of Things" and gathered about 90 participants from different regions of Russia and parts of the world.
FAMARB: Facility Management of Residential Buildings in Barents Region Hosted an International Online Seminar
Past week saw an international online seminar dedicated to the challenges of housing renovation and management in cold climate. The event was organized by Oulu University of Applied Sciences and held within the framework of FAMARB: Facility Management of Residential Buildings in Barents Region, a project funded by the EU-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “Kolarctic 2014-2020.”

FAMARB: Facility Management of Residential Buildings in the Barents region is an ambitious project and has yielded good results. It involves NArFU as a partner and is designed to make residential facilities sustainable and eco-friendly. To learn more about the project progress, we turned to Pavel Marjyandyshev, director at NArFU Higher School of Power Engineering, Oil and Gas, and Maria Frolova, associate professor of NArFU Higher School of Engineering’s Department of Composite Materials and Environmental Engineering.

The international project Ice Operations has had a summing up meeting to present the progress it achieved over the current year with regard to research on sea-ice conditions, simulation and forecast, and ice mechanics.
