NArFU hosted UArctic Thematic Networks meeting from the 28 until the 31of January. 19 Thematic networks representatives from Finland, Norway, Sweden and USA and 3 observers have presented their activities, shared experiences, and discussed cooperative projects.

The agenda for this year's meeting included presentations of new networks, the use of academic mobility, and increased engagement in research activities through the UArctic Research Office.

Within the framework of UArctic's Thematic Networks a joint seminar with NArFU experts was held where the representatives from both sides discussed the prospects of cooperation.

During the meeting the perspectives of new thematic networks creation were discussed. Thus, new thematic network on natural hazards is already in the process of establishment. Participation of the Institute of Integrated Safety in this network was actively discussed. High resonance received a presentation given by the representatives of the Institute of Shipbuilding and Arctic Marine Engineering. They have received proposals for initiating a new network on innovative technologies and shipbuilding. Joint academic programs were also in focus of the seminar. This year NArFU launches a new academic program “Diverse Arctic”. NArFU students as well as students from Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Finland will take part in this program.

The Law Institute and the Institute of Economy and Management presented their international academic programs in partnership with the University of Tromsø and the Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Science correspondingly.

The meeting offered a great opportunity for the experts from the educational and research institutions of different countries to establish and strengthen cooperation, plan their activities, learn from each other's work. UArctic Thematic networks provide an opportunity for its members to participate in joint projects, organize international events, create joint educational programs and prepare joint publications. At present NArFU is a member of 10 out of 25 thematic networks and we hope that after the meeting the activity of NArFU representatives will be increased.
