On 4-8 June 2012 Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences (Finland) hosted task meetings on “Travel and Tourism Management” pilot programme evaluation and further cooperation within joint educational projects.
The programme started in 2010 as a part-time 60 ECTS online study programme jointly developed by Harstad University College, Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences and NArFU. Students of partner institutions combined their participation in the joint study programme with the Bachelor / Specialist programme of their own choice.
On 6 June 2012 eight graduates of “Travel and Tourism Management” programme attended a viva voce and presented their final projects in Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences (Finland).
Graduates of the programme got unique international experience and a knowledge of how to make a sustainable travel and tourism business for the environment, the local societies and the economy.
The programme lecturers and coordinators of all the three institutions discussed students’ feedback, experiences and challenges from the first round of the programme and evaluated the ‘pilot project’ as successful though some changes are necessary. During the autumn semester 2012 the teaching staff and coordinators should clarify the organizational issues and enhance the content of each module in international teacher teams. A new programme will start in spring 2013.
Partners also discussed NArFU suggestion on joint MBA project aiming at applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or another adequate higher education degree, and who work in international business or pursue a career in international business.
