International School of Modern Arctic Engineering Technologies Finishes at NArFU

Northern Arctic Federal University has hosted an international online school dedicated to modern engineering technologies for the development of the Arctic.

The “Arctic Engineering” school was held on 20-25 September 2021. The event concluded with project presentations by the participants before a board of experts.

All groups worked on the same task: the first stage was to analyze the Russian Arctic shelf field development experience on the basis of real data in the public domain. After that, the participants had to choose the best platform and development method for introduction. The second assignment was to select a field following an analysis of the Norwegian shelf.

According to the experts, the first group, consisting of Russian students from the Gubkin University and Norwegian students, presented a sound calculation of the economic indicators for field development. The third group’s advantage lay in a successful comparison of two heat engineering calculation variants.

All participants of the School will receive certificates. The international event was aimed at consolidating knowledge and experience in the engineering fields of energy, construction and ecology in the Arctic. The school was joined by 80 students from Norway, Sweden, China, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, and Russia.

The multidisciplinary school united several fields, such as energy, oil and gas field development, ecology and construction in the Arctic latitudes. The attending students got a unique opportunity to gain insight into the experience of the world’s leading researchers from UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, the University of Upper Alsace, University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, Harbin Institute of Technology, University of Novi Sad, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, University of Stavanger and Gubkin University.
