Administered by Nordic Environment Finance Corporation NEFCO, the Programme for Environment and Climate Cooperation (PECC) aims to facilitate Nordic-Northwest Russia partnerships with focus on capacity-building and mutually beneficial collaborations in environmental protection and climate.
PECC has approved two proposals under its recent call that involve NArFU as a partner – Living Laboratory in Climate Change and Arctic Sun.
Living Laboratory in Climate Change is a project that seeks to develop and implement IT for the analysis and mitigation of climate change effects. Its consortium brings together partners in Sweden (Luleå University of Technology), Norway (Nordland Research Institute) and Russia (NArFU, ITMO). Experts at NArFU Higher School of IT and Computer-Aided Systems and NArFU Higher School of Natural Sciences and Technology are set to engage in project work as early as autumn. The research part of the project deals, in the first place, with technologies such as Blockchain, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. Among the key deliverables of this project is a smart system for climate change analysis and monitoring.
Arctic Sun has as its goal the capacity assessment of solar energy in the North and the careful mapping of solar insolation based on the example of Arkhangelsk Oblast. The agenda of this project features the development, and further adaptation to the Arctic environment, of a solar tracking system. Its international team represents SINTEF Narvik AS, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Sweden’s RISE Energy Technology Center and NArFU Higher School of Power Engineering, Oil and Gas.
We congratulate the project teams and wish them every success in their work!
