Future of Russian-Japanese Academic Cooperation Discussed in Tokyo

The Tokyo Campus of Japan’s University of Tsukuba has recently hosted a series of events featuring leaders of Russian and Japanese universities and focusing on the existing challenges in education and the development of bilateral academic cooperation. NArFU was represented by its Rector, Professor Elena Kudryashova.

The programme included meetings on collaboration in high technologies and partnerships between universities, companies and authorities. Professor Elena Kudryashova gave a presentation on NArFU’s bilateral and network cooperation with Japanese academia and businesses and introduced the newly established Center of Excellence “Russian Arctic: New Materials, Technologies and Research Methods”.

Since 2012 NArFU has been collaborating with Hokkaido University, including joint initiatives in the framework of the UArctic consortium. In May 2018 a delegation from NArFU took part in the 7th Russian-Japanese Forum of Rectors and the 1st General Assembly Meeting of the Association of Institutions of Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Japan, where a MoU between NArFU and Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center was signed. In the following year, the parties expanded their partnership and entered into an agreement on the establishment of a joint research lab, missioned with facilitating academic exchanges and joint projects in the interests of sustainable development in the Arctic.
