On September 12 NArFU signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam National University of Forestry.
Delegation of Vietnam was represented by President of Vietnam National University of Forestry, Professor, Dr. Tran Van Chu and Director of International Cooperation Division Assoc. Professor, Dr. Hoang Van Sam. The parties agreed to develop joint educational programs, participate in research projects and prepare scientific publications. It is also planned to develop student and teacher exchange programs, expand cooperation in the framework of training of specialists in the priority areas for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in particular master's and postgraduate programs related to forestry and chemical technologies.
«Despite the fact that the focus of NArFU is aimed at the Artic we cherish 90 years old traditions of Forest Technical Institute and we conduct training of new specialists and conduct research in the field of the development of the timber industry» said Elena Kudryashova rector of NArFU. The rector also noted that Arkhangelsk region is inextricably connected with the forestry, woodworking, pulp and paper industry and NArFU is actively involved in the development of the forest complex of the region.
Professor Tran Van Chu, President of Vietnam National University of Forestry said that bilateral collaboration can start next year. Climate change, biodiversity, forest management, biotechnology and landscape design would be main fields for the cooperation. «NArFU is one of the leading universities in Northern Russia and Russia as a whole and we are glad to establish connection with this university».
Marat Eseev, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations introduced the main research fields of NArFU and also told about the world-class Research and Education Center «Russian Arctic: new materials, technologies and research methods», NArFU acts as the base platform of the center.
«The aim of this center is to unite universities, research institutes, industry and business. This cooperation gives possibility to introduce research findings into industry and business. Processing of forest bioresources is one of the main activity areas of our center and we are interested in developing cooperation in this area with Vietnam National University of Forestry», said Marat Eseev.
VNUF and NArFU colleagues have discussed the specific areas of possible cooperation in forestry and natural sciences during the thematic workshop and had a chance to become acquainted with pulp and paper production industry - Arkhangelsk Pulp & Paper Mill, one of the leading timber and chemical companies in Russia and Eastern Europe.
During the visit to Arkhangelsk VNUF delegation has also participated in the 5th International conference «The issues in mechanics of pulp-and-paper materials», VNUF President Professor Tran Van Chu gave welcoming speech and Dr. Hoang Van Sam made presentation dedicated to the profound experience of education and research on forestry and paper in Vietnam.
