NARFU is focusing on the new opportunities of the EU Research and Innovation programme «Horizon 2020»

Richard Burger, research and innovation Counselor of the European Union Delegation to the Russian Federation, presented the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme «Horizon 2020» on the first day of the International Arctic Forum ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’. This event was organized on the base of the NARFU Intellectual center- scientific library named after E.I. Ovsyankin.

Lubov Zarubina, Head of International Cooperation Department, emphasized relevance and importance of the program as the effective financial instrument for implementing international projects. NARFU has the experience of participation in this program by implementing the following joint projects “E-URAL: European Union and Russia link for cooperation in the area of the environment” and “HEROMAT: protection of cultural heritage objects with multifunctional advanced materials”. In 2016 NArFU applied with two new research projects in cooperation with scientists from Finland, Great Britain, Slovenia, Serbia and other countries.

Richard Burger noted that Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. By coupling research and innovation, Horizon 2020 is helping to achieve this with its emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges.

Program is open for the Russian participants. Russian researchers and innovators participate in the program as partners of the joint research projects so the mobility programs’ participants and independent experts.

It is of high importance that this programme is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

All these measures will aim at breaking down barriers to create a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation.
