Law and Rights Modules in Teacher Training Programmes

Having our 2016 ERASMUS+ Capacity Building project approved, has been an extraordinary moment for all the partners. ‚ELA - Introducing modules on law and rights in programmes of teacher training and educational sciences’ aims at making a contribution to building rights based education systems. We, consortium partners, are deeply concerned about the role of rights based education in fostering social and economic development for all throughout the world. That concern underlies our Capacity Building project. ELA starts from the idea of inclusive education and equity of access and equality of educational opportunity. The underlining assumption is that enhancing equality in education requires a collaboration between educators and lawyers to promote rights based teaching, learning, school leadership and governance. Such a meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration requires lawyers to share legal knowledge and educators to show interest in legal matters.

The partners will push their authorities to support their work to enhance rights based decision making in education and to stimulate understanding of rights in education. They will develop methodologies on how lawyers could communicate law and legal information to educators and on how to prepare teachers and school principals to act in accordance with the law, they will redesign curricula to include 14 online modules that transfer a basic knowledge of education law and rights in education to the students in teacher education, they will develop online open learning and teaching tools on education law and rights in education, and they will disseminate information about the project through an e-newsletter, summer schools, workshops, conferences, forum.

The experts are proud to announce that they will contribute to the spirit of innovation in teacher education that should benefit their students and professionals in education, and hope to provide a forum for lively discussion of future goals and reforms in teacher education in the participating countries.

On the 2th and 3th February 2017 the ELA Project held its work group kick-off meeting at the Moscow City University (Russia) bringing together institutional projectmanagers and modular teamleaders of the consortium. The meeting was followed by an evening lecture on ‚The development of the rights in education of children with special needs in Russia’ by Elena Shinkareva.

The EduLAw project is a three-year European Capacity Building project funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Programme which aims at introducing modules on law and rights in programmes of teacher training and educational sciences’.
