Peter Marciniak, the Consul General of Poland in St. Petersburg, visited NArFU

On 16 December 2011 Peter Marciniak, the new Consul General of Poland in St. Petersburg, paid a visit to the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov.

The University was represented by Rector Elena Kudryashova, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Marina Kalinina, Director of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication Natalia Chicherina, Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture Victor Rakowski and Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Biomedicine Lyudmila Morozova.

The main discussion topic was cooperation between NArFU and the Polish universities. The cooperation started more than 15 years ago with the focus on the Polish Philology program at former Pomor State University, now taken up by the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. The project was implemented together with Adam Mickiewicz University. Besides, students and faculty stuff of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Biomedicine have conducted joint field research since 1996. Together with Polish colleagues the Institute also plans to develop a project on karst sediments study in Pinega.

Consul General of Poland proposed to establish the University-based Polish Center, which will accumulate all the information related to Polish culture. The Center can be used as a discussion area where students and experts will discuss the classical and contemporary Polish literature. The Consulate is ready to support the Center work.
