Presentation: Ideas of developing film education system in the Barents Region based on the experiences with Nordic Youth Film Festival (NUFF) in Tromsø and its partners in Luleå (Sweden), Oulu (Finland), Petrozavodsk, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.
Position: Director of the Nordic Youth Film Festival (NUFF). Hermann Greuel is the founder of NUFF and has initiated several international youth film projects as part of youth film exchange program SCREEN and NUFF-global project. In addition to NUFF, he is currently working on pre-project of the Barents Youth Film Academy (BYFA) with partners from Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, Luleå and Oulu. Hermann Greuel is a member of several film-festival juries, such as Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Kinotavr Sochi, Cottbus Filmfestival, Crossing Europe Linz, YOUKI, Jugendfilmtage Zürich, Saarbrücken Filmfest, etc.
Among the issues to be discussed by the participants are the
- role of film festivals in promotion in the Arctic theme;
- role of mass media in guiding the career choice among younger generations and personnel training for the Arctic;
- history, development and exploration of the Arctic through mass media.

The discussion platform aims to add to the promotion of the Arctic theme, to facilitate cross-cultural communication between students and youth organizations from different universities (Film Festival participants), to attract the world’s attention to uniqueness of the northern areas and of the Arctic region and to the contribution paid by the explorers and academicians studying the Arctic’s area.
The purpose of the Festival is to create a discussion platform open for dialogue and strengthening the international creative youth’s contacts with Arctic-focused universities in Russia and abroad; to establish a permanent international network of likeminded students with participation of well-known international mass-media experts for joint creative work on projects related to science and exploration of the Arctic.
