Employees of the Arctic Biomonitoring Laboratory presented a report at the conference "Development of the UK-Russian Arctic Research and Collaboration Network"
Employees of the Arctic Biomonitoring Laboratory , engineers Pesiakova Anastasia and Elena Gusakova took part in the conference of the project "Development of the UK-Russian Arctic Research and Collaboration Network", which was held on the basis of the NArFU from March 1 to 3.
At the conference sections, such issues as climate change, environmental impact assessment and mitigation strategies of impatc' consequencs, biodiversity of Arctic ecosystems and human health in the Arctic were discussed.
Within the framework of the event, the girls not only got acquainted with interdisciplinary researches of scientists from different countries of the world devoted to the comprehensive study of the Arctic, but also presented their research to the participants, making a report - "Cycling of highly toxic contaminants (PCBs) in the Arctic trophic chains". In their speech, Anastasia and Elena tried to draw the attention of the scientific community to the problem of spreading and transporting by the biological ways (in particular, transport with migratory bird species), of such persistent highly toxic environmental pollutants as polychlorinated biphenyls. They especially stressed the international importance of this problem, since this type of toxicants has a high cross-border migration ability. The report aroused interest among the conference participants and received valuable comments from foreign colleagues.
