INDUSTRIAL POWER ENGINEERING FACULTY

The faculty established in 1961, trains approximately 500 full-time students. Four departments constitute the faculty: electrical power supply of industrial enterprises, industrial heat power supply, electrical engineering and power systems, automation of technological processes and production. More than 70 % of teaching staff have science degrees and titles.

The faculty offers undergraduate programme in four specialities:
140104.65 - industrial heat power supply
140106.65 power supply of the enterprises
140211.65 - electrical power supply
220301.65 - automation of technological processes and production (in branches)

The study process lasts for 5 years. The graduates obtain qualification of an engineer. The faculty offers Masters degree programme in Heat power engineering.

Industrial Heat Power Supply

Knowledge gained after completing undergraduate programme in speciality Industrial Heat Power Supply (started in 1956) allows the graduates to deal with boiler-plants, turbine-driven generators, compressors, fans, pumps, heat-transfer apparatus and pipelines of power stations and power systems which enable to generate, transport and operate energy carriers in industrial enterprises.
Special attention is given to studying mathematics, physics, engineering thermodynamics, heat-transfer theory as well as special subjects which cover studying mechanism, design and maintenance of industrial thermal power stations equipment, heat-transfer apparatus, heat supply systems, heating and air-conditioning systems.

The students acquire knowledge in economic subjects, make acquaintance with means of heat processes automation and control. Computers are widely used in the study process.

To master their practical skills the students undergo practical training at thermal power stations, power-machine engineering enterprises and research institutes.

The graduates can be employed in thermal power stations, enterprises of heat supply systems and housing and public utility sector, industrial enterprises utilizing heat power, project and research institutes.

Power Supply of the Enterprises

Knowledge gained after completing undergraduate programme in speciality Power Supply of the Enterprises (started in 2000) allows the graduates to deal with boiler-plants, turbine-driven generators, compressors, pumps, fans, electrical machinery and apparatus, heat-transfer apparatus, underground and overhead cables, pipelines of thermal power which enable to generate, transport and operate energy carriers in small and medium-size industrial enterprises. On completing both programme in speciality Power Supply of the Enterprises and in Industrial Heat Power Supply can continue to study for Masters programme in Heat power engineering.

The graduates may be employed in the position of a power engineer i.e. a specialist operating both heat and electrical equipment.

Electrical Power Supply

Career prospects for the graduates of undergraduate programme in speciality Electrical Power Supply (started in 1973) are available in the field of electric installations, supply and distribution mains including step-down and converting substations, which provide transmission of electric power both to industrial enterprises and their technological complexes, to power consumers of different industrial enterprises, cities, towns, rural areas and manufacturing facilities.

The students trained for this speciality besides academic and general technical subjects acquire background in electrical engineering, measurements in electricity and electronics, electrical materials study. Both at the lectures and practical classes they acquire necessary knowledge about electrical machinery, automated electric drive and electrical apparatus. The students have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge during practical training in power systems and power stations, industrial enterprises and research institutes.

In the course of students training special attention is given to mastering practical skills in using computers and the newest computational equipment.

The graduates can be employed in electric grid companies, power stations, industrial enterprises as well as deal with control of energy use.

Automation of Technological Processes and Production

Undergraduate programme in speciality Automation of Technological Processes and Production (started in 1988) allows its graduates to deal with design, adjustment and maintenance of automated and automatic technical systems and their control systems, technological processes of manufacturing components, elements, functional devices of automation and control systems.

The students study special subjects, focusing on designing, constructing, calculating; production technologies and applying automation means and systems. In the course of students training computers and microtechnology are widely used.

Career opportunities for the graduates are available in industrial enterprises, introducing and developing automated control means and systems to control technological processes of chemical and wood-working enterprises, project and research institutes.

The fields of the faculty graduates professional activity are as follows:

  1. management in power engineering
  2. design and construction
  3. test and research
  4. assembly and adjustment

Training of the students is carried out in accordance with state standards, one of the main characteristics being elective subjects, i.e. subjects elected by the students according to their wish.

For those students who are eager to acquire profound knowledge in such subjects as management in power engineering, electric power grid, operation and maintenance of electrical machinery, information technologies in power engineering, etc training on contractual basis with enterprises, organizations and firms is provided.

The students doing research work have the opportunity to undergo a training course in leading higher schools both in our country and abroad as well as to do postgraduate work.
