General goal:

development of students’ intercultural competence by enlarging their theoretical knowledge of the subject and through acquisition of practical skills of successful communicators with others of diverse cultural backgrounds and in various cultural settings.

Learning outcomes:

consist in the development of the following skills and uderstandings :

  • expanding students’ knowledge of the ways of other cultures (norms, values, etc.);
  • realizing the value of individual cultures and understanding and accepting the visible and the hidden differences of various cultures;
  • recognizing the influence of one’s own culture on the way in which we view ourselves and perceive the surrounding world;
  • expanding the range of students’ verbal and nonverbal communication skills.

Course contents

The course consists of 12 two-hour sessions including lectures and seminars, a two-hour

tutorial, and a final 3-hour seminar which presupposes group discussion of the results and

students’ individual presentations alongside summarizing their reflections on the course in

written form.
