“Power and automation systems of ships” is one of the most versatile engineering directions in the Institute of Shipbuilding and Arctic Marine Engineering (Sevmashvtuz). It is no exaggeration to say that certified electricians are required in all industries, all fields of human activity. That’s why our graduates can easily find jobs both in small regional industrial centers and in major metropolitan areas.

Sevmashvtuz has been training electricians since 1965. The main department is “Ship electricity and electrical engineering”. What is remarkable in this department is rather that the level of skills of teachers is very high: more than 80% of teachers have advanced degrees. The department has close ties with leading companies in the sector, it performs applied research.

The department trains postgraduate students on program “Electrical engineering”, 15 graduates defended their thesis for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, one – for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences.

The department offers full-time and part-time courses (with training period of 5 years). The profile “Ship power systems” is one of the most popular engineering directions in the Institute of Shipbuilding and Arctic Marine Engineering. A certified mechanic is always demanded in all sectors of the economy – transportation, construction, mining, processing industries etc.

The department of “Ocean engineering and power plants” is one of the basic departments in the institute; it trains mechanical engineers since 1970. Four Doctors of Technical Sciences and five PhD work in this department. That’s why we produce a kind of graduate that is skilled enough to work not only on shipbuilding and ship-repairing enterprises, but also in other industries. The department also offers PhD programs.

He is able to perform calculations and analysis of equipment performance. The graduate can also orient himself confidently in the directions of development of modern marine equipment, technologies of manufacture, operation and maintenance. All graduates come to know the particulars of 3D-design technologies and information systems of life cycle support for vessels.

The department “Shipbuilding and welding” is the basic department in the Institute of Shipbuilding and Arctic Marine Engineering, it trains welding engineers since 1975. Currently the laboratory facilities of the department are being modernized in accordance with modern requirement of science intensive industries.

The department “Engineering of hoisting and technological equipment” has been training engineers since 1990. Five PhDs, one doctor of sciences, several postgraduate and doctoral students work on this department. Our teachers together with students constantly conduct research work on the development of new transport vehicles and equipment using 3D design systems.

This profile is the most versatile and demanded in all engineering industries and enterprises. The graduates work as design engineers in various design and engineering organizations and departments of enterprises. They can also work as process engineers and programming engineers, operators of modern technological systems, researchers, foremen.

The department “Metal Technology and technology of mechanical engineering” has been functioning for 30 years already. Two doctors of sciences and four PhDs work on this department.

Occupational field of the graduate includes design, research, production and maintenance of control systems and tools in defense industry, economy, transport, medicine. The graduate can also create modern software and hardware for research and design, monitoring, technical diagnostics and industrial testing of automated control systems.

Modern technologies in various fields of human activities are unthinkable without digital and computer technologies. That’s why the profile “Informatics and Management in Technical Systems” covers such areas as maintenance and repair of equipment. Our graduates also work as system administrators, programmers and IT-specialists in various enterprises and organizations. This direction of education is very popular in Russia. For this reason, the graduates do not have problems with employment.

Our students get all necessary skills for development, operation and maintenance of integrated automated information systems as well as implementation of design solutions with the use of integrated information technologies and software technologies. Occupation field of the graduate includes:

The accounting profession is always in demand, whichever of three directions the man chooses: the accountant, the auditor or the analyst. Our graduates get fundamental knowledge in the field of accounting, auditing, comprehensive economic analysis of enterprises and organizations. The students study international standards of accounting and financial reporting, international auditing standards, professional computer programs.

The department “Accounting, analysis and planning” was established in 2000. Seven candidates of economic sciences work here.

A specialist in this area is able to participate in the work on the development of new technological processes of oil and gas production. He is also able to apply methods of rational use of new materials, power resources and other types of resources. Occupational field of the graduate includes a set of tools, techniques, methods and technologies aimed at creating offshore engineering structures, offshore technology tools and production methods.

This direction was established in Sevmashvtuz at the dawn of development of northern seas of Russia, when construction of jack-up and stationary drilling rigs began at the enterprises of the town. This is an independent branch of shipbuilding with its own technologies of production and design.

The department “Ocean engineering and power plants” is one of the basic in the institute. It offers only full-time courses (with training period of 4 years).
