Research profile

Scientific activity of students is an important aspect of educational process in high school. That’s why the Institute of social, humanitarian and political sciences holds numerous scientific competitions and conferences.

Science is an interesting activity. And by participating in different conferences, workshops and by publishing articles you get a great opportunity to start your scientific career in student years. On the other hand, this experience can help students to obtain scholarships and to enter postgraduate courses.

In addition to the annual All-Russian Conference “”Problems of interpretation of historical sources” and a Conference on American Studies, the Student Scientific Society (SSS) organizes thematic conferences and workshops. For example, last year the society held a conference on history and cultural cooperation between Russia and Norway. Consuls of foreign countries (USA, Poland and Norway) often visit such events.

Our students actively participate in grant activities and in research summer and winter schools on cultural studies and history. The Institute also holds regular competitions on cultural and religious studies. Some of our students obtain increased scholarships from NArFU, the governor’s scholarship, presidential scholarship, scholarship of Potanin.

The Society of medieval archaeology has been going since 2007; it conducts archaeological expeditions, lectures and an archaeological school. With the assistance of this society many students get an opportunity to participate in excavations throughout the country from Novgorod and Ladoga in the North to Azov in the South.

In the Department of Cultural and Religious studies works a Laboratory of Applied Cultural Studies which is an educational, research and creative place for discussion, reflection and strategic planning of modern socio-cultural situation.
