The institute of Physical Education, Sport and Health was established in 2011
as a successor of the Faculty of Physical Education of former Pomor State University.
There are 460 students in the institute and 120 teachers and staff who work here. The institute comprises 35 highly qualified specialists in the field of physiology, sport medicine, sports pedagogy and psychology, 8 Honored Workers of Physical Education, 3 honored coaches and 16 Masters of Sports.
The institute has trained more than 3000 specialists in physical education and sport, more than 100 Masters of Sports of the USSR and Russia, hundreds of sportsmen with official rating that have made significant progress in work and sport. Among the graduates of the institute there are several honored coaches of Russia, honored workers of physical education, a honored coach of the USSR and other distinguished people.
Our institute is unique. Theoretical studies alternate with sports classes. The students specialize in 9 core sports that are most important in the region – swimming, athletics, skiing, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, floorball, hockey, polyathlon.
Our students also have an opportunity to specialize in speed skating, weightlifting, various marital arts, kayaking, etc. The students are free to organize and conduct research in the field of physical culture and sports. The institute actively operates a research laboratory with all necessary equipment and the students have an opportunity to perform their course works and graduation works on a high scientific and methodological level. For many years the students have been participating in the championships of memory to our teachers V.S. Khudyakov and A.N. Sokolov.
