The Department was created in 2002 and has focused on training translators and interpreters to receive one of the two degrees: in Translation and Interpreting or Translation in International Business. Additionally, the Department teaches linguistic and translation courses for students of Legal and Timber Institutes

Since 2003 Department professors and teachers have been training students of Engineering, Economics and other programs as well as University graduates towards Continuing Professional Education degrees in Translation in Professional Communication.

Since 2006 qualified Department staff have been corroborating with Retraining Institute at delivering retraining courses for NARFU and other Russian Universities staff on innovative programs: Practical Course in Translation for Professional Purposes; Language Education: Translation Training Quality at University; International Business Communication and European Level Language Skills.
