Arctic Oil and Gas
Technologies

Established for the purposes of fundamental and applied research into development of
mineral deposits in the Russian part of the Arctic region

The Research and Education Center “Arctic Oil and Gas Technologies” is implementing the competitive R&D programmes dealing with the methods and eco-friendly technologies for oil and gas field operation that meet the current trends in the development of Arctic oil and gas producing technologies.

The newly established Engineering Innovation Center “Arctic Oil and Gas Laboratory Research” is tasked with multi-faceted study of core materials; core material data processing and systematization; description of physical and chemical properties of reservoir fluids based on surface and deep well samples; systematization of data on core volumes, reservoir fluids and lab analysis results. Based on the results of lab analysis, the Center may process the given geo-physical materials and simulate scenarios of hydraulic fracturing and of enhancing oil recovery on a particular field. The purchased facilities and software include SAPHIR and Well Testing Monitoring products. The first contracts have been signed with Naryan-Mar Neftergas Ltd. and Polar Lights Company (PLC).

In July 2012, the Center was issued the certificate of accreditation ААС.А.00156 valid before 02 July 2016. Accreditation confirms the Center’s technical competency in the area accredited and that its laboratory quality management system meets all standards and requirements.

The Field Operation Simulation Training Center has begun its full-fledged functioning. A situation Center, it offers simulator-based team training of students majoring in various aspects of oil and gas production. In fulfilling its core task of ensuring efficient field operation though simulation of situations and development scenarios, the Center is making use of such sophisticated software as Petrel, Eclipse, Pipesim, Techlog (by Schlumberger); Irap RMS (by Roxar). Not only does the simulation and visualization system display field data for expert analysis, but it also offers a scenario for performing field service activities. Among the other skills that students may acquire at the Center are those of the decision-making and of implementing the scenarios of oil-producing company’s programme.
