Established in 2010, the Centre deals with the study of the special distribution and mechanisms of functioning of ecosystems in the Arctic and adjacent taiga, as well as of the adaptation mechanisms developed in species and populations inhabiting the pessimal areas in high latitudes.
The Center’s core area of activity targets organization of field expeditions to Pinega State Reserve, to the Solovetsky Archipelago and to the difficult to access Arctic areas – Kolguev Island, Vaigach Island, the Yugorsky Peninsula, the Kanin Peninsula and Pym-Va-Shor thermal district (Nenets Autonomous Area).
The Center is very active with fundraising (2011 research budget totaling over RUR 5 mln).
